The Alcohol, Tobacco and Other Drug Research Unit is looking for two experienced, energetic and organized fieldworkers to work on project MIND, a trial of a mental health counselling intervention for patients living with a chronic disease. Fieldworkers will be expected to work across two to three of the following communities: Mitchells Plain, Retreat, Hanover Park, Elsies River, Khayelitsha, Crossroads, Gugulethu, Crossroads and Brown’s Farm. They will be responsible for tracking and retaining participants in the study, conducting participant follow-up interviews in the clinics, and conducting follow-up interviews of participant and their caregivers within the community among other duties.

Responsibilities: Core Requirements:
  • Ensuring compliance with study protocols
  • Tracking participants in the community for study retention
  • Conducting patient and caregiver surveys within patients’ homes and other community settings
  • Administrative duties
  • Have at least three years of relevant experience conducting research in clinics and communities.
  • Have a Matric
  • Have a valid drivers’ license
  • Speak fluent Afrikaans or isiXhosa in addition to English
  • Have excellent computer skills

Pay will be commensurate with experience and qualifications and will be at the level of senior research technician (entry). Successful candidates will be provided with relevant on-the-job training. This is an eight-month contract position.

A salary in the region of R143 705 per annum (R11 975 per month), cost-to-company.
