A full-time position for a Research Technician (S) is available at the Primate Unit and Delft Animal Centre of the SAMRC

Responsibilities: Core Requirements:
  • Provide animal care – feeding, watering, sanitation of animal rooms and cages including and not limited to removal/distribution of bedding, scrubbing, basic animal handling & health monitoring
  • Provide research support – record data
  • Work over weekends and after hours if required based on operational needs
  • Provide general assistance outside main key activities incl. receive/off load deliveries and general maintenance of cages and animal rooms, etc.
  • Grade 10
  • Willingness to learn new skills and knowledge
  • Availability to frequently work over weekends and after hours if required
  • Willing to undergo regular TB testing and required health checks
  • Strong empathy for animals
  • Speak and read English fluently
  • Good interpersonal and communication skills – a team worker
  • Self-motivated, attention to detail, meticulous
  • Good sense of responsibility and reliable
  • Code 8 driver’s license would be a recommendation


  • 1-2 years’ experience in animal care.

 Note: A negative TB test is required before commencement of appointment. The appointment will be subject to a 6 months’ probation period.

A salary in the region of R119 952 per annum, cost-to-company.
