Every death counts: Saving the lives of mothers, babies and children in South Africa

Three South African mortality audit reports, Saving Mothers, Saving Babies and Saving Children, offer a review of the healthcare provided to mothers, babies and children. Information on cause of death and avoidable factors is published in these reports, which together create a health profile of mothers, babies and children who died in health facilities, giving insight into the quality of care they received in the South African health system. These reports synthesise audit information to help guide priority setting for the National Department of Health and all levels of health service delivery. In Every Death Counts,  the authors of these three reports have come together for the first time to present a unified call for action to save the lives of South Africa’s mothers, babies and children.
