Dr Zinhle Makatini is an accomplished Pathologist who holds BSc (Hons) in Biochemistry and MSc in Immunology from the University of London. This was followed by an MBChB from the University of Sheffield, FCPath Viro and PhD from Sefako Makgatho health Sciences University.

Dr Makatini previously sat on a number of National Committees on an Advisory capacity to the Minister of Health including the National Health Research Committee, National Advisory group on Immunization and continues to serve the Medicines Control Council (SAHPRA) Council, Clinical and Clinical Trials Committee. She is currently a member of the Ministerial Advisory Group on COVID19.

Dr Makatini is joint appointment staff member of University of Witwatersrand and NHLS and serves as the Chair of the Virology Expert Committee and a Councillor and Secretary to the College of Pathologists.  In 2020, Dr Makatini served as a member of the Ministerial Advisory Group (MAG), a position she no longer holds.
