Health Geographic Information Systems

To develop the Health Geographic Information Systems (GIS) field, its capacity and contribution to the health of South Africans and the global population, the SAMRC:

• Encourages research collaborations;
• Develops and shares relevant health data using geospatial tools, techniques and methods;
• Embraces technological advancements in the geosciences and the development of tools and approaches for managing, mapping and sharing data; 
• Advises on GIS for health research projects;
• Provides, and consults on, special databases;
• Offers Global Positioning Systems (GPS) support;
• Hosts GIS introduction courses; and
• Assists with once-off map and analysis requests for SAMRC divisions and partners.
