Professor Lisa Micklesfield, Director of A3RU, is a Research Professor at the University of the Witwatersrand. She is an internationally recognised scientist (NRF B2-rated) whose research focuses on non-communicable disease (NCD) risk across the life-course, with particular emphasis on body composition (bone, muscle and fat) and physical behaviours in shaping NCD risk and its interaction with HIV in African populations. 

Her research aims to understand how biological, behavioural and social factors across the life-course influence health, functional ability and quality of life in ageing adults, generating evidence to inform context specific interventions and public health policy. She has published over 200 peer-reviewed papers in leading international journals and three co-authored book chapters.  Her scholarly impact is reflected in strong citation metrics across platforms: Web of Science h-index 31 (4565 citations), Scopus h-index 32 (5387 citations) and Google Scholar h index 46 (8369 citation.
