Prof Marinda is widely recognised for his leadership, management, and academic contributions. Since 2016, he served as Research Director at the HSRC, contributing to major population-based HIV prevalence surveys and other studies, making him suitable to contribute to PACER’s research. He has over 25 years of teaching and supervising experience in biostatistics and epidemiology, which also included designing and coordinating curricula. He has a strong postgraduate mentorship record, having supervised over 30 MSc students and supervised/co-supervised more than 10 PhD students, alongside mentoring interns and post-doctoral fellows. Prof Marinda has successfully raised multi-million rand research grants and led large scale, multi-year collaborative HIV projects. He maintains a solid publication record, including 47 articles, 14 technical reports, policy briefs, and conference proceedings. He has an H-index of 23, extensive project management experience and a good collaborative profile which includes over eight years of partnerships with organisations such as CDC, NICD, WHO, and Czase. He has the necessary leadership and research experience to contribute to the leadership of the Unit.
