SAMRC hosts the US Secretary of State

US Secreatary of State

To commemorate this year’s Women’s Day, the SAMRC hosted the United States Secretary of State, Antony J. Blinken for a Women in Science event at the Pretoria Office.

Hosted jointly by the SAMRC President and CEO, Prof Glenda Gray and Secretary Blinken, the event was aimed at celebrating leading South African women in science, research, and innovation. Minister of International Relations and Cooperation (DIRCO), Naledi Pandor and U.S. Ambassador-designate Reuben Brigety II, were also in attendance.

The event saw a small group of leading women scientists making poster presentations to Secretary Blinken, covering areas such as the country’s response to the need for local pharmaceutical production, as well as mRNA vaccine science and innovation.

Secretary Blinken’s visit to South Africa was part of his three-nation tour of Africa including Congo and Rwanda.
