Frederic is the current Programme Manager of Research Capacity Development (RCD) Career Awards/Grants at the SAMRC, where he manages a portfolio of strategic funding programmes to build South Africa’s sustainable health research human capacity. Since joining SAMRC, Frederic has successfully overseen funding programmes that help fast-track and transition early- and mid-career scientists into independent researchers, including the SAMRC RCD Initiative at selected historically disadvantaged institutions (HDIs). Before joining the SAMRC, he held research positions at Stellenbosch University, the University of Cape Town, and Maastricht University. Frederic has supervised postgraduate students and contributed to scientific publications and international guidelines on research funding and capacity development. He is a member of the Essence on Health Research (research management working group). His interests include strengthening health research capacity, science policy, innovation, and research evaluation.
