Wits University Collaborating Centre for Multi-disciplinary Research on Malaria
The Collaborating Centre for Multi-Disciplinary Research on Malaria, based at Wits University, focuses on research programmes that use parasite and mosquito surveillance to strengthen South Africa’s National Malaria Control Programme.
Key focus areas
- Assess the presence of markers (commonly found in certain resistance treatments) in the human malaria species - P. falciparum;
- Investigate P. falciparum cultures and how they interact with and respond to treatments;
- Inform malaria treatment policy; and
- Compare different methods of collecting mosquitos for surveillance.
