The Collaborating Centre for Multi-Disciplinary Research on Malaria, based at Wits University, focuses on research programmes that use parasite and mosquito surveillance to strengthen South Africa’s National Malaria Control Programme.

Key focus areas

• Assess the presence of markers (commonly found in certain resistance treatments) in the human malaria species - P. falciparum;
• Investigate P. falciparum cultures and how they interact with and respond to treatments;
• Inform malaria treatment policy; and
• Compare different methods of collecting mosquitos for surveillance.
