Dr Mokhachane is a paediatric specialist with a particular passion for bioethics. After obtaining her Bachelor of Medicine and Surgery (MBBCh), Fellow of the College of Medicine (FCP.Paed.SA), and MMed of Paediatrics at the University of Witwatersrand, she went on to join the neonatal unit at the Chris Hani Baragwanath Hospital in Soweto. First-hand recognition of the many human rights atrocities experienced by her fellow South Africans drew her to Advocacy and Research Ethics. The recognition of these issues motivated her to become a member of the National Medical Research Council Ethics Committee, the Ethics Committee of Research on Human Subjects at Wits and HSCRC Ethics Committee. She is also the recipient of the Fogarty Foundation Scholarship in Ethics from Johns Hopkins University.  She has served in various committees, including the Professional Ethical Standards Committee.

It is this passion for delivering ethical and humane health care that led her to the Unit of Undergraduate Medical Education (UUME) in 2015, where she began lecturing and Coordinating in the GEMP I and GEMP II classes, achieving a Postgraduate Diploma in Health Science Education, and subsequently becoming the Director of the Undergraduate Medical Education in 2020. Ensuring that the next generation of health care practitioners are not only educated to the highest standards, but that they are equipped with the tools to provide an ethical and humane service to their communities, became her top priority.

Charlotte Maxeke said; “This work is not for yourselves- kill that spirit of self, and do not live above your people but live with them. If you can rise, bring someone with you” and that is her life lesson.
