Developmental Pathways for Health

The Developmental Pathways for Health Research Unit, based at Wits University (within the School of Clinical Medicine’s Department of Paediatrics), researches and develops interventions to lower the risk and prevalence of chronic disease to improve the health of South Africans.

Key focus areas

  • Addressing the national priorities of increasing life expectancy, decreasing maternal and child mortality, and strengthening health systems;
  • Investigating genetic, physiological, psycho-social and lifestyle factors impacting population growth and development like obesity and the risk of cardiometabolic disease; and
  • Researching innovative ways to promote healthy ageing.
