Master’s degree in Medical sciences at Stellenbosch University

Candice is a Programme Manager at the SAMRC’s Grants, Innovation and Product Development (GIPD) Unit. Candice joined the SAMRC in 2006 and worked as a scientist in Diabetes research prior to her current role. She obtained her Master’s degree in Medical sciences at Stellenbosch University in 2010. She also completed a certificate course in project management from CPUT and a Management development program from the University of Stellenbosch Business School.

She is responsible for pre-and post-awards grants administration and stakeholder management. She manages a diverse portfolio of programs, largely in collaboration with international funders such as the MRCUK’s Newton Fund, SA-India, GlaxoSmithKline, Novartis and, during the peak of the COVID-19 pandemic, The Solidarity Fund.

She is currently the SAMRC’s Lead Program Manager for the mRNA Vaccine Technology Transfer Hub, awarded by the World Health Organization, where she manages the South African mRNA Vaccine Consortium (SAMVAC).
