Nganea Nangammbi holds an MSc in Biotechnology from the University of Pretoria and is currently pursuing a PhD in Bioinformatics, with a focus on Machine Learning, at the University of Cape Town.
Nganea serves as Project Manager for the SA110K programme within the Grants, Innovation and Product Development (GIPD) unit at the South African Medical Research Council (SAMRC). In this role, he coordinates and manages the SA110K Human Genome Programme study cohorts for the 10K pilot phase and liaises with the programme’s various working groups, including the laboratory and data teams. He also oversees selected project components of the MADIVA (Multimorbidity in Africa) project within GIPD.
Previously, he served as Senior Technologist at the SAMRC Genomics Platform, where he focused on optimising next-generation sequencing (NGS) library preparation protocols for MGI and Oxford Nanopore Technologies (ONT) platforms, among other responsibilities. Prior to that, he worked as an NGS Research Technologist (Bioinformatics) at the Agricultural Research Council (ARC), where he led DALRRD-funded species diagnostics projects and developed bioinformatics pipelines to support accurate species identification.
