Evaluation of Computer Automated Reading Software in Detecting Tuberculosis from Chest X-Ray in Prevalence Setting |
Project PI - Prof vd Walt To fill the evidence gap in the use of chest X-rays in TB screening, we will compare the performance of three different Deep Learning applications in detecting bacteriologically confirmed TB with that of radiologists experienced in detecting TB, using datasets from the latest prevalence survey from South Africa. Diagnostic and therapeutic biomarker responses in HIV and tuberculosis coinfected patients |
PhD thesis Project PI - T Mthiyane We describe the benefit of 1) urine lipoarabinomannan (LAM) to diagnose TB in smear-negative HIV infected patients 2) N-acetyl transferase 2 (NAT2) polymorphisms and TB treatment response, 3) Quantiferon Gold in tube (QFT-GIT) to monitor response to treatment in smear and culture positive TB-HIV coinfected patients, and 4) a quality of life instrument to monitor treatment response as biomarkers for use in patients.
