Biography

Dr Tshivhase completed her PhD from the Cape Peninsula University of Technology, where her research focused on biochemical analysis and microRNA profiling in a high-glucose in vitro model with resveratrol intervention. Her doctoral work advanced understanding of the molecular mechanisms underlying metabolic dysfunction and highlighted the potential of resveratrol interventions. Throughout her postgraduate training, she gained expertise in molecular biology techniques, metabolic disease research, and clinical data analysis.

Dr Tshivhase is currently a Postdoctoral Fellow at the Biomedical Research Innovation and Platform. Her research addresses metabolic and intestinal health, including the effects of high fat/high-sugar diets on the intestinal health of Wistar rats, the association between leaky gut and diabetes in pregnant South African women, and a randomised placebo-controlled clinical trial investigating baobab fruit powder's effects on gut and cardiometabolic health in obesity. She has mentored postgraduate students.
