
I am a molecular biologist with a keen interest in immunometabolism and the pathogenesis of infectious diseases including non-communicable diseases. My PhD research investigated the metabolic parameters of immune cells from blood and bronchoalveolar lavage of individuals with various clinical outcomes after Mycobacterium tuberculosis (M. tb) exposure and was under the supervision of Prof N du Plessis.
My current post-doctoral project is under the guidance of Prof Carmen Pheiffer and is looking into the longitudinal profile of miRNAs in women with diabetes in pregnancy.
My early training was in the field of dentistry, were I qualified as a professional Dental Therapist and occasionally review student thesis and review the dental therapy curriculum.
I am a recipient of the DST-NRF Innovative Doctoral Scholarship, and Stellenbosch University Consolidoc (Postdoc) Scholarship, Stellenbosch University Postgraduate Scholarship, Harry Crossley Research Bursary, North-West University Postgraduate Scholarship, Golden Key International Honour Society Merit Award and travel grant.
