Research focus: Metabolic disease (pathophysiology, prevention and treatment), phytotherapeutics and early detection of type 2 diabetes.

Biography: Prof Muller focuses his research on the potential role of phenolic compounds in the prevention and treatment of metabolic conditions such as insulin resistance, dysbiosis, inflammation, obesity, and diabetes. He is also involved with developing early markers to screen for type 2 diabetes and other novel therapeutics. He has 2 International patents (USA and Europe) for the prevention of diabetes and has authored and co-authored 101 peer–reviewed articles and two book chapters. He has graduated 17 MSc, 7 PhD and supervised 2 postdoctoral fellows. Currently he is supervising 2 PhD’s and 3 MSc students. He holds two honorary associate professorships at the University of Stellenbosch and University of Zululand. He is an external examiner at three universities, and acts as a reviewer for NRF and many international journals.
