Current research/role focus: My research focuses on electrospray ionization, in particular solvent properties that influence the signal intensity, and applying this knowledge to the quantification of compounds in biological and environmental samples using LC-MS/MS.
Biography: Pieter Venter is an Analytical Scientist within the Biomedical Research and Innovation Platform (BRIP) at the South African Medical Research Council (SAMRC). He obtained his MSc and PhD in analytical chemistry from the University of the Free State and University of Stellenbosch, respectively. He previously worked at the University of the Free State as a LC-MS/MS analyst, as well as at the South African doping control laboratory (SADoCoL) measuring endogenous steroids using isotopic ratio mass spectrometry. During his PhD and career at the SAMRC he employed high resolution mass spectrometry and ion mobility mass spectrometry for the untargeted analysis of natural products.
