Current research/role focus: My research focuses on the quantification of pharmaceuticals in biological and environmental samples using LC-MS/MS. One of my main focus areas of my research is the quantification of pharmaceuticals in wastewater effluent and surface water.

Biography: Pieter Venter is an Analytical Scientist within the Biomedical Research and Innovation Platform (BRIP) at the South African Medical Research Council (SAMRC). He obtained his MSc and PhD in analytical chemistry from the University of the Free State and University of Stellenbosch, respectively. He previously worked at the University of the Free State as a LC-MS/MS analyst, as well as at the South African doping control laboratory (SADoCoL) measuring endogenous steroids using isotopic ratio mass spectrometry. During his PhD and career at the SAMRC he employed high resolution mass spectrometry and ion mobility mass spectrometry for the untargeted analysis of natural products.
