Current Research/Role  focus:

Manage the operation of the Unit laboratory and Provide support to PIs and scientists in the Biomedical Research and Innovation Platform (BRIP).

Biography:

Sello Mikasi received training at the National Health Laboratories Services (NHLS) at the Groote Schuur Hospital and subsequently registered with the Health Professions Council of South Africa (HPCSA), as an independent practice in Virology. In addition to his leadership roles, Sello has vast knowledge and skills in the research field, particularly in HIV-1 diversity and drug resistance testing.

Sello has worked in the private sector -Pathology laboratories in various roles; as a laboratory manager, head of the department, business units’ leader ( overseeing the operations of Gauteng, Western Cape, and Mpumalanga provinces), Quality assurance manager as well as the interim director for food laboratory.

Before joining SAMRC, Sello was then appointed as HSE according to Section 16(2) to ensure that the Occupational Health and Safety of the organization are prioritized and managed.

His achievements span from ensuring that laboratories follow SANAS and GLP standards and successfully maintaining the annual SANAS renewal registration.
