Research Focus: Cardiac Metabolism

Biography:

Zainonesa has always had a deep interest and love for Human Genetics.  She obtained her PhD degree in Biotechnology from the University of the Western Cape.  Her study focused on identifying genetic biomarkers that could be used for the development, validation, and implementation of pharmacogenomics profiling panels specific for individuals of African descent diagnosed with type 2 diabetes mellitus.

Zainonesa has previously worked in the pharmaceutical sector as a Quality control Laboratory Manager.  In addition, she has also worked as Senior Scientific Officer at the University of the Western Cape where she taught Molecular Biology Techniques to undergraduate and postgraduate students.

Currently, she continues her pursuit in expanding her knowledge and contribution towards Precision Medicine in the Cardio Metabolism group at the Biomedical Research and Innovation Platform.    Here she will investigate the role of pharmacogenomics in uncontrolled hypertension.
