Dr Naomi Okugbeni obtained her PhD at Stellenbosch University, South Africa in April 2022. For her PhD, she focused on tracking autophagy progression in Mycobacterium tuberculosis infection. During this time, she employed cellular biology techniques such as microscopy to zoom into the host-bacteria interactions during M. tb infection. Following on that, her focus is on Transcriptomic profiling and Correlative light and electron microscopy characterization of the mitophagy-xenophagy axis in M. tb-infected macrophages. She has also recently delved into the field of host resistance to Tuberculosis to better understand the host-bacteria interplay in M. tb infection.
