The 11th SA AIDS Conference took place from 20-23 June at the Durban International Convention Centre under the theme of Act, Connect and End the Epidemic. As a key stakeholder in the fight against HIV/AIDS, the SAMRC was well represented at this three-day conference, calling for action and reigniting the fight against HIV/AIDS
- Critical health reforms overdue to improve healthcare now, provide essential building blocks for NHIFollowing deliberation on the public input on the National Health Insurance Bill, the Portfolio Committee on Health approved a list of amendments to the bill which was passed by the National Assembly on 13 June 2023. - One of the SAMRC’s Unit Directors, Prof Wiysonge will be leaving the SAMRC to join the World Health Organization (WHO) Regional Office for Africa as the Regional Adviser for Immunisation and Team Lead for the Vaccine-Preventable Diseases Programme.
- The Council for the Lindau Nobel Laureate Meetings has announced that 9 young scientists from South Africa are to participate in the 72nd Lindau Nobel Laureate meeting taking place from the 25-30th June 2023 in Lindau, Germany. Ms Ramakgahlela Betty Sebati, a Research Assistant from the SAMRC / University of Johannesburg’s Pan African Centre for Epidemics Research (PACER) Extra Mural Unit was selected as one of the 600 young scientists worldwide to attend the meeting with this year’s focus being dedicated to Physiology and Medicine.
