Dr. Nyirenda trained in demography and social statistics from the University of Southampton and obtained his doctorate from the University of Cape Town. He is an honorary Senior Lecturer with the University of KwaZulu-Natal, School of Nursing and Public Health, and is a National Research Foundation (NRF) rated scientist. He has worked as a demographer and household surveillance leader for the Africa Health Research Institute and has experience in biomedical clinical trials. His research interests include demographic ageing, HIV prevention and long-term effects of HIV treatment, morbidity and mortality analysis, and evaluation of health programmes.
