Ameer is a Senior Scientist in the Health Systems Research Unit. He is also the coordinator of Cochrane Africa. He is currently pursuing his PhD in Epidemiology and Biostatistics at Stellenbosch University.

His interests include evidence-based healthcare, evidence synthesis and improving trial conduct, explicitly focusing on ethical practices linked to transparency and reporting.

His work as a research methodologist primarily focuses on conducting evidence synthesis, and supporting guideline development work, in South Africa and internationally, including work with the World Health Organization.
