Associate Professor Sitas is an experienced cancer and chronic disease epidemiologist. He led the South African National Cancer Registry between 1991 and 2002, set up the Johannesburg Cancer Study in 1994, and advised the Ministry of Health to add questions on smoking on the death notification forms in 1997. He is currently based in Sydney, Australia. He is a consultant to the ERICA-SA project and is providing academic leadership in developing cancer epidemiology skills in the country.
