Mr. Nkambule is a Geographer with experience in research and private sector environments, holding a BSocSci and BSc Honours in Geography and Environmental Management, and a Master of Science. For his MSc, Mr. Nkambule was part of the Durban Research Action Partnership (D’RAP) which is a collaboration between UKZN and the eThekwini Municipality’s Environmental Planning & Climate Protection Department. He has research/project management experience in environmental issues which includes being a Principal Investigator for a socio-ecological research study commissioned by the eThekwini Municipality’s Environmental Planning & Climate Protection Department; coordinating data collection for a national study on municipal waste management and associated technologies; a Project Coordinator where he managed the roll-out of a project towards the development of micro-enterprises in the waste sector; and a Project Manager at the SAMRC Environment and Health Research Unit where he led and took part in research related to heavy metal exposure, and local knowledge of poisonous plants. He is currently a Senior Scientist within the SAMRC Environment and Health Research Unit and is actively involved in the SAMRC Wastewater Surveillance and Research Programme (WSARP). As a young professional, Mr. Nkambule is motivated to make contributions in addressing socio-ecological challenges experienced in South Africa’s marginalized communities, where the natural environment and well-being of community members is closely linked.
