Marian Loveday is a scientist with a focus on TB, drug-resistant TB (DR-TB) and health systems research. Her research over the last eight years has focused on evaluating different models of care for DR-TB patients across South Africa and how health systems performance impacts on programme performance. This work has included documenting the experiences of patients with DR-TB, the caregivers of children and the challenge of adherence in people living with HIV. I am the PI of an observational study in which we are documenting the treatment pregnancy and infant outcomes in women treated for DR-TB during their pregnancy. I am a co-investigator in pharmacokinetic studies exploring plasma levels of bedaqualine and other second line TB drugs in these women and their infants and in another study exploring the microbiomes in these women and their infants. I lead a study in which we are screening the contacts of TB index patients for TB and comparing the contacts of TB and diabetes index patients to determine which contacts are more at risk of TB transmission. We are also comparing whether household contacts of TB index patients are at more risk of TB transmission
