
Dr Terusha Chetty serves as Deputy Director and Specialist Scientist at HIDRU, since 1 November 2024 bringing her expertise as a clinician and epidemiologist to the unit. Holding a specialist degree and a PhD in Public Health Medicine, Dr Chetty's focus revolves around elucidating the epidemiology of HIV during pregnancy and postpartum periods, alongside investigating health system processes aimed at reducing maternal and newborn mortality rates while enhancing overall quality of care. In addition to serving as PI on several maternal and child health studies, Dr Chetty is the national co-principal investigator for a phase II double-blind randomized clinical trial, assessing the safety and pharmacokinetics of a broadly neutralizing antibody in breastfed HIV-exposed and -infected neonates and infants in South Africa.
