Sebenzile Nkosi is a Senior Scientist in the Mental Health, Alcohol, Substance Use and Tobacco Research Unit of the South African Medical Research Council.

She also holds a Research Associate position at the Department of Psychology at Rhodes University.

She has a PhD from the University of South Africa and obtained her Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees from the University of the Witwatersrand.

Her research interest and current focus is men’s health, specifically the role of gender norms in men’s vulnerability towards health risks, including violence, substance use, and (other) mental health issues.

Sebenzile has worked on various research projects with a focus on alcohol use and related health risks including sexual risk behaviours and non-adherence to antiretroviral therapy.

She has also recently started to work on tobacco control related research and collaborated on and managed the first ever national Global Adult Tobacco Survey in South Africa.
