Prof Loxton is a Senior Specialist Scientist and Deputy Director at the SAMRCs Centre for TB Research. The concept of immune suppression and immune regulation has fascinated him, and it continues to be the major focus of his research group. Through clinical studies we aim to understand the cell phenotypes, including regulatory T-cells and B-cells present during TB and HIV disease and how we can apply these as biological indicators of infection, disease progression and treatment response. The LoxtonLab performs research into the Immunology of Infectious Diseases where he leads the Adaptive Immunology laboratory hosted at Stellenbosch University in the newly built Biomedical Research Institute). Loxton is also involved with several TB vaccine studies and the immunogenicity of new TB vaccines. The work in the LoxtonLab is driven by his dedicated and highly skilled postgraduate students and staff.
