I hold a Master’s degree graduate in Chemical Engineering, with a background in Biotechnology and working in a BSL-3 environment defines my experience as an SAMRC employee.

My previous experience includes but is not limited to running various clinical trial tests on TB samples, training and supervising technologists, assisting with the day to day running of the lab, preparing for audits and resolving queries as well as managing the LIMS system at TASK Applied Sciences. In my current role as a BSL3 manager, I am responsible for the maintenance of the BSL3 at Stellenbosch University, Tygerberg Campus, conducting competency assessments on BSL3 users, ensuring that the BSL3 remains complaint with regulatory bodies which include Department of Agriculture and Research Ethics Committee at the University. I am also involved in sourcing funding for BSL3 equipment, writing up SOPs and documentation required by the users and maintaining good communication lines with BSL3 users and management alike.

My TB clinical trial research and BSL3 experience spans a period of thirteen years. In this period, I have progressed from a Junior Technologist, a Laboratory Supervisor, a Technical and Operational Specialist at TASK Applied Science and I joined the SAMRC and SU as a BSL3 Facility Manager. My growth within the industry can be attributed to being an efficient & reliable employee, paying attention to detail, leadership skills, strong problem-solving skills, determination, good communication skills and a willingness to learn.
