Grant is a Professor at Stellenbosch University in Cape Town, South Africa. He is interested in practical and translatable solutions to any problem that will improve the lives of people suffering from tuberculosis, and helping trainees do the same. His research activity includes large scale field and laboratory diagnostic evaluations for the detection of tuberculosis and drug-resistance, study of the aerobiology, infectiousness and transmission of tuberculosis, and early-phase research on the microbiome and tuberculosis. He is PI of the CLIME group, which has 50 members and a network of clinical and laboratory sites. He is a member of several international consortia, including some he leads, and his research has influenced global policy decisions and attracted multiple forms of recognition. He works with diverse international stakeholders, including NGOs, companies, and policy making bodies, and is always interested in creative ideas to help end tuberculosis.
