Improving initial access to rehabilitation services and retention in care for children and adults with moderate and severe disabilities in rural areas poses unique challenges around affordability, acceptability, and accessibility - challenges which drive inequality and are perpetuated by our own health systems. In this webinar, Maryke described how rehabilitation systems and service reforms, initially driven by COVID-19, produced surprising results that have become ‘business as usual’ for the Manguzi team in rural KwaZulu Natal. Through describing this journey, Maryke shared key learning points are shared which have relevance for policy makers, managers and clinicians alike in their journey towards ensuring universal health coverage for all.
